Rare Opportunity

Rarely have we found the right cruise that includes Greenland. Greenland is that one pin in the map that is hard to come by. In 2026, we found a wonderful cruise with Celebrity Cruise Line that starts in Iceland. Then after a few stops in Iceland, the ship heads to Boston with stops in Greenland, St. John, Newfoundland; Halifax, Nova Scotia and Sydney, Nova Scotia before arriving in Boston. Celebrity is a premium cruise line and is recognized as being one of the top cruise lines in the world.

Before we fly to Iceland to board our Celebrity Cruise ship, we will spend 7 nights 8 days experiencing Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Reykjavik, Iceland. Between the cruise and our land tour, you will experience the Best of the Best in Iceland, Greenland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.

Day 10: August 23: Isafjordur, Iceland
We will not be offering our own shore excursion in Isafjordur. Often times in these very small towns there are so few buses, the cruise line ends up controlling 100% of any buses in the entire area.   These companies are unwilling to risk their year-round contracts with the cruise lines for a company that is in port once or twice a year.  You will be on your own to secure excursions, either through the ship or on your own from local vendors.  We recommend seeing the stunning waterfall of Dynjandi. After departing Isafjordur we will sail along Iceland’s spectacular coastline, glacier-carved green mountains stand in contrast against the deep blue sea.

Day 11 & 12: August 24 and 25: Akureyri, Iceland
If possible, we will be doing our own offered shore excursion for the two days we are in Akureyri. We will not know until around 4 months prior to departure for when we will announce whether we will be able to offer a tour here.  Akureyri is often described as the capital of northern Iceland, the country’s second-largest city is both vibrant and pretty and serves as an ideal hub for exploring the incredible landscape that surrounds it.  After the ship departs, we will sail through Eyjafjordur – it is one of Iceland’s longest fjords. Lined with peaks that descend to the water’s edge.

Today those with our shore excursion package will explore the capital city of Halifax, with a visit to the Fairview Lawn Cemetery where rows of gravestones mark the final resting place of 121 victims of the Titanic.  After this interesting stop, we have a beautiful coastal drive that takes you past picturesque coastal villages and inlets to the rugged fishing community of Peggy’s Cove.  With its breathtaking location on a narrow inlet characterized by wave-worn granite boulders and crashing surf, this charming little village is one of Canada’s most photographed sites.  According to local legend, Peggy’s Cove received its name in the 1800s when a schooner ran aground and sank.  The only survivor from the wreckage was a woman named Margaret.  The locals came to know her as Peggy and her home as Peggy’s Cove.   A lighthouse was constructed in 1868 on the smooth white granite rocks at the point of the cove and is one of the crowning features of this peaceful place.  The small picturesque fishing village that has grown up around the lighthouse has become one of the most photographed locations in Canada.  You will certainly fall in love with this tiny village where colorful houses dot the shoreline and quaint shops and galleries line the streets.

Day 21: September 3: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada
For those doing our shore excursion package today we begin in Sydney which was founded in 1758 by Col. J. F.W. Des Barres, Sydney was first settled by Loyalists from New York State. Immigrants from the Scottish Highlands followed 20 years later and added much of the Scottish flavor we see today. Sydney boomed at the turn of the century with the building of the Dominion Steel and Coal Company plant at Whitney Pier. This plant was the largest self-contained steel plant in North America and is still the city’s major industry. Next, we visit Glace Bay. This former coal mining town got its name from the French word for ice, because of the drift ice in the harbor. During the 1950s and 60s, Glace Bay’s population was more than 28,000 inhabitants, making it the largest town in Canada at the time. While here we visit the Miners’ Museum. This museum focuses on the contribution of coal and the people who mined it to the development of modern Western civilization.  To make the best of this tour be sure to wear warm clothing and good walking shoes.
